In previous years, to obtain a NBI Clearance, you had to go to the nearest NBI office, and of course, you had to wait in line. However, with technological advances that allow many government transactions to be conducted online, you can register and apply for an NBI Clearance online.
The NBI is an official document issued by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to prove that an individual has no criminal record or active criminal charges. It can also be used for job applications, visa and immigration processing, and business purposes.
NBI Clearance Online Application Procedure
You can apply for a new NBI Clearance online using a computer or smartphone, then pay the registration fee through the NBI website. This eliminates the need to physically visit an office and wait in line. See the step-by-step guide below:
Step 1: Visit the NBI Clearance website at https://clearance.nbi.gov.ph.
Step 2: Register a new account by checking the NO box next to “Do you have an old NBI clearance?” Fill out the form carefully to avoid errors. Click the REGISTER button. Don’t forget to remember your password.
Step 3: Fill out the NBI online application form as honestly and accurately as possible. Then click the SAVE INFORMATION button.
Step 4: Click the APPLY button for CLEARANCE. If you wish to change or edit your applicant information, click the EDIT INFORMATION button.
Step 5: Enter your valid ID in the pop-up box. Click the I Agree button. (Note: Bring this ID to your appointment.)
Step 6: You will then be given important reminders, either in English or Tagalog. Click the Close button.
Step 7: Select the NBI branch where you want your NBI clearance processed using the drop-down box. Then select your appointment date (the blank slots are blue). Your appointment confirmation will appear on the right side of the page.
Step 8: Click one of the available payment options, such as direct bank transfer, online banking, Bayad Center, MultiPay, ECPay, and 7-Eleven. A payment reminder will appear. Click the Continue button.
Step 9: A transaction summary will appear. Click the Proceed to Payment button.
Step 10: Your reference number will be displayed. Use this reference number when making your payment. Then, click the Transactions link at the top left of the screen to view your transaction.
Step 11: After making your payment, be sure to check your email for payment confirmation. Once your payment is verified, your application status will change from Pending to Paid. A Details button will appear on the right side. Click it, then click the Print Application Form button to print the NBI certificate application form. Bring this application form to any NBI branch office on your appointment date.
After printing the form, your application is no longer required. You can simply write down your reference number on a piece of paper or take a screenshot using your phone.
Take Your NBI Clearance
After you have registered for the NBI Clearance online, you can then go to the NBI office of your choice on your scheduled appointment date. Here are the things you will need for your NBI appointment:
- First, Reference Number
- Payment Slip or Receipt
- Valid ID Card (see the list of valid ID cards below)
- Printed Application Form (optional)
- Show your reference number and payment receipt to the officer on duty. Proceed to the processing station and present your valid ID card to the officer. The officer will then check your name and personal information against the national database. You will be asked to pose for a photo, and then your fingerprints and signature will be taken.
If you don’t have a matching name, you can pick up your NBI Clearance in just a few minutes. Otherwise, you will be asked to return in a few days. This is because there was a “match,” and the NBI will need more time to verify your true identity.
You will be given two copies of the NBI Clearance—one for official use and one for your personal use. After the validity period of your NBI certificate expires, which is 1 year, you can easily renew it through the NBI certificate website using the same account.
